The Emschergenossenschaft is having a flood retention basin (HRB) built in the Ellinghausen district of Dortmund as part of the ecological redesign of the main course of the Emscher. In the future, the \"HRB Ellinghausen\" is to provide a total retention area with a retention volume of approx. 1.5 million m\u00b3 in conjunction with the neighbouring \"HRB Mengede\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an excavation area of almost 25 ha, an excavation volume of more than 1 million m\u00b3 of soil and an excavation depth of up to 6 m, the flood retention basin will make a significant contribution to flood protection in the cities along the main course of the Emscher. For the construction measure, 3 separate individual basins were initially excavated from 2013 onwards to create the so-called intermediate state. The completion of the northern basin part C already took place in 2019; for the final construction of the southern basin parts A and B, the remaining edge dams (\"Rehnen\") are currently being removed, so that the final structural condition of the HRB-Ellinghausen will soon be reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Emscher, which was straightened during the industrialisation process, will meander through the basin in the course of the final development by digging a new river bed. Alternating between low and high discharge rates of the Emscher, the retention basin takes on a floodplain-like character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The major project for the construction of the \"HRB Ellinghausen\" has been accompanied by TABERG Ingenieure GmbH for more than 10 years, both in terms of planning and technical expertise. All services relating to soil management, geotechnical implementation support and construction supervision \/ site management are still fully provided by TABERG Ingenieure GmbH today.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
