Project description: In the southern Dortmund district of Hörde, steel was produced and rolled in the Hermannshütte until 2001. Subsequently, planning began for the residential use of this area with consideration of a lake that would also absorb floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Emscher River if necessary. These measures required extensive earthworks to model and prepare the residential areas and the lake bed. The site with the central PHOENIX lake is now a magnet for visitors and has comprehensively upgraded the Hörder city centre.
